Homes for Ukraine Scheme

In response to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, the UK government has opened the ‘Homes for Ukraine Scheme’ to allow Ukrainian refugees to come to the UK regardless of whether they have family ties to the UK or not.

In a nutshell the Homes for Ukraine Scheme relies on the generosity of the British public and encourages people of the UK to open their homes to Ukrainian refugees. As a minimum UK sponsors must be able to provide suitable accommodation for at least six months and in return for this generiority sponsors will be offered £350 per month (for up to 12-months). Aside from the provision of accommodation, under this scheme Ukrainians will be granted a 3-year visa to the UK where they will be able to live, stay, work, and access public funds.

Currently the Homes for Ukraine Scheme is open to Ukrainians who have a named person in the UK willing to sponsor them. If you would like to be part of the scheme but don’t know anyone in need then there are a range of charities and non-government organisations who are ‘matching’ UK sponsors with Ukrainians.

Below is a summary of the requirements:

  • Applicants must either be a Ukrainian national who was a resident in Ukraine prior to 1 January 2022, or they are an immediate family member of these Ukrainian nationals.
  • Sponsors must be able to provide accommodation for a minimum of six-months. The accommodation on offer must be suitable for occupation.
  • Both Ukrainians and UK sponsors must pass the security checks in place.
